Rheology Testing

RHEOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT FOR NEWTONIAN and non-NEWTONIAN FLUIDS SLURRIES and PASTES

  • Static yield stress using vane technique
  • Steady shear viscosity using rotational viscometer with vane, cone and plate, cup and bob and parallel plate configurations
  • Measurement of the effect of shear rate and shear history on yield stress and viscosity (thixotropic/rheopectic)
  • Determination of cemented paste rheology for backfill design (UCS testing also conducted for cured samples)
  • Dynamic viscosity measurement
  • Capillary viscometry and initial pipeline transport evaluation for slurry systems
  • Flocculation, settling, compression and permeability evaluation of suspensions for prediction of flow and dewatering behaviour in thickeners and filters

 CALCULATION and INTERPRETATION

  • Interpretation of shear stress, shear rate data for a wide range of materials and applications
  • Slurry pipeline prediction from laboratory rheological assessment of slurry properties
  • Prediction of dewatering behaviour for thickening and filtration devices based on laboratory characterization measurements
  • Overall assessment of the potential for thickened tailings disposal and mine stope fill in the minerals industry

ON SITE SERVICES

  • RCS is available to conduct consulting and testwork services on site as required. In many instances, this is preferable as it allows testwork conditions to be most representative of operating plant conditions.
